YPI Challenges with Schools

We are implementing CBSG in one particular district and are having issues with the district allowing us to implement with fidelity. The district won't allow students to discuss anything. The district is very strict on student confidentiality and doesn't want them discussing their charges or why they are there. Some fights have broken out because of this. We want to be flexible and provide the service students need within the parameters we are given. We have adjusted and are having students write their thoughts on note cards. We don't feel this is the best way to work with the students. The curriculum has now morphed into presentations instead of curriculum. This impacts the number of students we see for curriculum delivery. In our area, we are also not seeing many students referred to an alternative school. This is also impacting the number of students we see for curriculum delivery.

Thank you for sharing this.

It will be helpful to hear how others are adapting their approach while still meeting program goals and student needs.
